What I Wish to Tell My Clients: A Memo From Your Early Intervention Therapist
As your early intervention homecare therapist, I may start as a stranger in your home, but that feeling fades quickly. After just a few sessions in your child’s playroom (and maybe even the kitchen), we share meaningful moments and insights. My goal is to support you and your child every step of the way, and soon enough, you might even feel like I’m part of the family.
There are many things I want to share with you—insights I often hold back while carefully choosing my words because I don’t want to be too assertive or prying. I also don’t want you to feel like I am judging you; I know you are trying so hard, and I am entirely on your team! So if you are reading this blog, , consider it a little note from me to you, filled with immense admiration and understanding!
I Admire You
I want to take a moment to acknowledge how much you are doing for your child. I see your efforts and thoroughly admire you for it. Your dedication is inspiring and plays the most important role in your child’s progress.
I Want the Best for Your Child
I may just be a provider, but I am here because I love children. My desire is for everything to go perfectly in your child’s development, and I will do everything within my capabilities to help make it happen.
I Wish We Had Started Sooner
Early intervention therapy is critical for the development of many children, and the earlier we begin, the more effective it tends to be. It saddens me when I see a child who could have benefited from starting therapy earlier but whose intervention was delayed. I know there must be a good reason for it, and I try my best anyway.
It’s Not Just About My Sessions
My one, two, or even three weekly sessions won’t be enough to ensure lasting change. I aim to empower families through training and guidance to ensure steady progress. Please stay vigilant with the exercises we discuss. The extra effort you put in at home makes a world of difference for your child’s growth.
Trust Yourself—You’re the Parent
I often meet parents who feel inadequate and unsure of their abilities. I want to tell you: you are doing a fantastic job. Parenting is a journey full of ups and downs, and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed at times. Remember, you are the best parent for your child and their ultimate advocate.
But Also, Listen to Advice
I may be seen as an outsider, but I bring insights from my experience. If I suggest a course of action or intervention, know that it’s coming from a place of care and observation. Please take this guidance seriously.
Consistency is SO Important
I wish I could shout this from the rooftops! Consistency is key to success. I understand there are challenges to sticking to a schedule; life is busy, and it’s easy to find reasons to cancel. However, staying committed will yield the results we are looking for. Your child will thank you for it in the long run.
